Last summer I was hanging out with Courtney right around her birthday and we had planned on shooting this look with this Vera Wang dress I’d found on Rent The Runway. The only issue was it was the dead of summer and we were in NYC waiting for the sun to start going down so we could shoot and we were working with layers….and black….and leather…and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky…oh wait did I say only one issue? lol my bad…. But really, I don’t regret the wait because that was the day we started putting together our relaunch video! It’s crazy to think that we’ve known that we were going to use these shots for this back then, but it was such a fun shoot and even though the leather stuck to her like glue that Starbucks run was well deserved! (If you follow our Instagram you know what we’re talking about) Courtney is a trooper and my God that girl knows how to have fun during a shoot which makes my job a thousand times easier. 💁🏽👍🏽
Anyway, the point of this shoot was to put together a look showing how you can take a dress that was technically meant for a formal event and bring it to the streets and into an every day moment, we literally wore it to Starbucks and not one person batted an eye, but then again it is NYC. 🤷🏽♀️ Courtney’s birthday gift were these amazing Birks that just released stateside which we linked below and are so so so comfy 🙌🏽 and they looked phenomenal with the dress. Keeping her hair in a simple loose knot at the base of her neck just made the look so effortless.
The second look was to top the dress with a silk top by Theory dressing the gown down even further. Making plans for brunch? Then heading to a concert later in the evening? Why not?! I love the idea of layers that not only keep you warm, not that we needed them that summer day, but also are functional to your day to day activities. So if it helps you transition from day to night then why not make your outfit go all the way like this one? Let us know what you think in the comments!
