When I was a little girl I had pin straight hair and easily rocked the Kelly Kapowski with tons of hairspray. And then one day I started to get these random curls and boom, suddenly I looked like the chick from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Ever since then, I have made it my life’s goal to figure out the best way to tame my hair and keep it hydrated.
Because my hair is naturally curly and my curls tend to look like a mad scientist’s halo if slept on, I tend to do a blow out or straighten it with my flatiron all the time. I’ve been on the hunt for a hairdryer that doesn’t burn my hair if I get too close or melt the ends of my brush and I can tell you that my Harry Josh Pro Tools 2000 is the answer to my every prayer. I am chronicly late for everything and more often than not my hair is to blame. It’s long and it always took forever to dry, but now I can dry it and pump the strands with ions in under 5 minutes!
Another incredible addition to my hair care has been my styling brush by Laight & Mercer. When you have long curly hair, it tends to snag all the time, but now that I use my styling brush for wet hair it never gets caught. That brush glides through my hair and helps protect it from breakage and split ends. So yes, I highly recommend it.
Don’t get me wrong, I have screwed that up plenty of times, the best example being ages 18-21 as a blonde, overprocessing my hair to the point where if The Original HouseBunny had been around he would have tried to eat it like hay. But since I turned back to my natural color, which I am so grateful for doing because God clearly knew what looked better with my complexion than I did, I have been filling my cabinets with only those products that help maintain a luster in my hair.
Over the past few years my skin has become more sensitive, so I’ve experimented with a bunch of brands and I’ve found that John Masters has been the best for my hair and scalp so naturally the majority of my products are by him. But I’m also always looking for different products to add to my regimen and the latest is Byredo Gypsy Water. It’s a hair perfume and the more you move your hair the more it releases its fragrance. It’s not harsh and actually nourishes your hair so for someone like me who straightens my hair every other day I need it.
And since I mentioned that I straighten my hair every other day, because I promise you, no good will come from doing that every day, I turn to Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak dry shampoo. The smallest bit goes a long way. So after all that talk let’s get to the products. Here are my top products and styling tools that I cannot live without.
