Our Beauty Editor started a concept this month on natural ways to enhance your beauty and we’re running with it. To bed that is. She went through the basics of why you need sleep and we completely agree with her. We even just finished reading an article in the NY Times about the whole glymphatic system’s (our brain’s lymphatic system’s) ability to basically reboot while we sleep. It’s a great read and you should most definitely check it out, as much of the research discussed is based out of University of Rochester. If you don’t have that much time then at the heart of the matter, they are basically emphasizing how important it is to get a good night’s rest.
So we aren’t going to go through any more science or any more positive words of encouragement. We’re just going to tell you what we like to use to help us fall into that deep sleep that is so very hard to get when all we really want to do is double tap through our phones and tweet that we are everywhere and anywhere but where we actually are, which is in bed, by ourselves, with Netflix, and maybe a Jerry Garcia.
This Works | Sleep Plus Pillow Spray
Like the name says, this really works. I wouldn’t put it on your silk pillow cover, but if it’s your cotton one go for it. A little goes a long way. Just close the lights, a couple deep breaths and wallah!
Perpetual Shade | Eye Mask
I love this. I really, really love this. I suffer from migraines so I need to get a good night’s sleep and that means pitch black. My Perpetual Shade eye mask has a silk underside so it is so soft against my skin and it stays put. And best part? Lights Out!
Lavender Satchel and Angel Face | Lavender Lux
Lavender is so intoxicatingly relaxing. My shampoo is lavender based. And part of my nightly ritual is a hot shower then after using my heavy duty Aesop lotions on the rest of my body, I hit my arms and neck with this Lavender Lux body lotion. The satchel is an added bonus, just a little crinkle and the lavender is activated. The aroma in the air helps me relax and eases me into sleep.
White Noise
And sometimes, none of it helps. Some times you just have to take a page from your days at the spa and play some relaxation music aka white noise. You can find a bunch of options on iTunes or YouTube ranging from rain forest sounds, ocean waves, thunderstorms, flutes, piano and cellos, and birds, whatever floats your boat.
So that’s a little glimpse into what we like to do to catch our Zz’s. After all, if we have taken the time to learn one thing in life, it’s how to get a decent night’s sleep! Go ahead and let us know what your favorite products and rituals are!
